Beautiful wooden fridge magnets featuring an illustration of the legendary 'moonraker' tale that gives the people of Wiltshire their intriguing nickname.
Dating back to the late 18th century, it is said that local Wiltshire smugglers were storing barrels of brandy in a local pond in order to extract them under cover of darkness - exact whereabouts debated, but possibly outside of Devizes. When they were caught attempting to rake the pond to retreive their contraband, they were discovered by the taxman! To get away with their crime, the smugglers pretended that they were simply attempting to rake the moon, whose reflection they could see in the surface of the water; the taxman believed them to be fools and left them alone.
Spruce up your kitchen or workspace with one (or more!) of these illustrated magnets, crafted out of sustainable and FSC-certified maple veneer. Measuring 65mm at the widest point and 4mm thick, these are a solid and durable momento of Wiltshire and its towns and a lovely souvenir or keepsake.
This product has been lovingly illustrated, designed and printed in the U.K.
